In the 60s, I used to read Tarot cards – by memory. I had a basic deck, nothing fancy, and a little book that detailed information about each card. I enjoyed doing readings for friends – I guess it was the era.
I picked it up again a couple of years ago – I was intrigued by an artist who was making a limited edition of Tarot cards, Joanna Powell Colbert http://www.gaiantarot.com/ - she was making the Major Arcana cards first, then the Minors. She is a talented artist and her interpretation of the cards is unique and relevant to the times. I long to purchase a limited edtion print of my favorite cards. I managed to save up and purchase her limited edition set – they were packaged in a wonderful velvet pouch with talismans from her island in the Northwest.
I’ve since started collecting different editions of Tarot cards – there are so many now – Celtic, Goddess, Animal totems – you have your pick. I am starting to read them again. I admit it takes me a lot of time – and patience to interpret them to my life now.
I did a reading for myself with the Goddess Tarot created by Kris Waldherr. It is a beautiful deck and its cards are of women goddesses and warriors. I did a Past/Present/Future spread with four cards only using the Major Arcana. Faced with a major upheaval in my life right now, I wanted to see what strengths or weaknesses I needed to concentrate on. (the descriptions and drawings below of the card spread and cards are written by Kris Waldherr – it is presented for information only – all rights belong to Kris Waldherr)
Card 1 – the past or the foundation of the matter being considered.
Card 2 – the present or as things stand now.
Card 3 – the possible future. If things continue as they are now. Remember the future can be influenced by our attitudes and our interntions.
Card 4 – the overall message or lesson of the spread. This card sums up everything examined so far.
I was pleased with the reading – it seemed to be right on the mark with what I face.
